About This File Type
After creating an email in Stensul, users can download the email as an EMLTPL file (Email File Template). This file type enables distributed teams who use Microsoft Outlook for Mac to create emails in Stensul and then make those same emails available in Outlook to send to their audience.
Setup in Outlook
There is no setup required in your Outlook instance. However, if your team is using Microsoft’s Outlook 365 platform, you may consider leveraging Stensul Outlook 365 integration instead.
Setup in Stensul
To use the EMLTPL file type feature, you simply need to enable the creation and download of an EMLTPL file type in your Stensul email library. In the left-hand menu of your Stensul library, enable “EMLTPL Download” and then select “Save.”
Permissions Required
To be able to leverage this feature in Email Builder, certain permissions must be added to your roles.

Using this File Type
After creating your email in Stensul and after it has been reviewed and approved, mark the email as “complete“.
In the Export modal that appears, select the Download EMLTPL button. Depending on your library’s configurations, you might also see an option to download the email as an OFT.
Alternatively, you can access the Download as EMLTPL button via the Stensul dashboard.
To do this, locate your email and select the ... option on the right-hand side. In the menu that appers, select Download as... and then select EMLTPL.
Note: You are only able to download an email as an EMLTPL once it been marked as Completed.
Best Practices
Design for simplicity
Outlook-optimized Stensul libraries: are still required for the optimal rendering of email in Outlook. To learn more about Outlook-optimized Stensul libraries, contact your Stensul customer success manager.
Prevent large space between text elements: Rather than using multiple text elements within a module, use one and have the builder use the ‘desktop line break’ option, return, or short-return for spacing within the one text element.
Lack of Stacking: Since stacking is not possible within EMLTPLs, keep your modules to one column, or two at the most. This will help with readability and prevent rendering issues.
Downloading
Complete the email: EMLTPLs can only be downloaded for finished emails due to rendering issues seen with drafts.
Sending the file: It is recommended that the same person downloading the EMLTPL from Stensul is the one sending it. If this is not the case, we recommend sending the downloaded EMLTPL file through a sharing platform (e.g. Drive, Slack, etc). Sending EMLTPLs as an attachment will likely cause rendering issues.
